Daylight Savings Time
Ends How would you like an extra hour of sleep this weekend? Well, you've got it. This is the weekend when we say "goodbye" to daylight time and greet eastern standard time for the next couple of months. So don't forget to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. And since you're going to have an extra hour, King Fire and Emergency Services have some ideas on how to spend the time. Township Fire Prevention Officer Keith Wells said that since you'll be going around the house to adjust the time on clocks, timers, VCRs, DVD players, etc., it's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. "The batteries in a smoke alarm don't last forever," he observed. "It's a great time to change the batteries in the smoke alarms to make sure the smoke alarms are working." Wells also issued a reminder that one alarm is not enough. New provincial legislation requires there be a smoke alarm on every level of a house, including the basement. He also reminded families that they should sit down and work out an escape plan in the event of fire, and then practice it. | |||||
