Peewee Knights win one against Schomberg
Submitted by Kevin Burtt

The NobleKing peewee Knights A team, sponsored by Ottaway Transport and Saraben Investments, continued with their busy regular season schedule this past week and weekend with three games.

Last Tuesday evening, the Knights faced the East Gwillimbury Eagles for the first time this season on their home ice in Nobleton. The Eagles were first on the scoreboard and managed to maintain their lead throughout the game, defeating the Knights 6-2. Matt Baker and Marco Mussato each scored a goal to put their team on the scoreboard.

Friday evening, the Knights took on Stouffville for the second time, but fell short and had to take another defeat 3-0. There was no offense provided by the Knights, but they had solid goal tending from Ben Rossetto.

Saturday, the Knights came out strong against their opponents in Schomberg and managed to dominate the entire game with strong offense and solid goal tending. Many opportunities were created by the Knights, who skated harder and out shot the Schomberg squad in all three periods.

The Knights were first on the scoreboard with a goal from Bennett Jull part way through the first period, but Schomberg responded early in the third to tie things up.

The constant pressure and numerous shots on the Schomberg goalie gave the Knights their second goal of the game. Some nicelyexecuted passing gave defencemen Robbie Pizzicarola an opportunity to blast a hard low slapshot into the Schomberg net.

The Knights defeated Schomberg 2-1, and received great goal tending by John Salome.

Last weekend, the Knights played against two tough teams from their division, the Barrie Colts Friday and Newmarket Saturday.

In a home game against the Colts, the Knights fell behind early in the first period by a few goals and by the end of the second period they were trailing 5-1. In the final period, the Knights came on strong and capitalized on a couple of power play opportunities responding with four goals to come within one of tying the game. Unfortunately in the last few minutes of the match the Colts scored their second goal of the period to secure their 7-5 win.

On Saturday evening the Knights succumbed to the Newmarket squad's strong offense with a bitter 8-1 loss. Going in to the final period Newmarket was already ahead 4-0 and managed to put another four in net by the end of the game. The Knights responded with only one goal from Daniel Bilzer, assisted by Michael Noblegreen.

The previous Friday evening saw the Knights square off against Orillia in their home rink in Nobleton. The game was scoreless going into the second period when Orillia turned it up and scored four goals by the end of the frame, while keeping the Knights at bay.

In the third period, a goal by Mussato, assisted by Victor Mifsud, put the Knights on the scoreboard. This would be the only offense the Knights could muster for this match, as Orillia went on to win with a score of 5-1.

The following evening, the Knights faced off against the Stouffville Clippers in their second away game of the season. This hard-hitting contest remained scoreless going into the third period and with only a few minutes left in the match, one of the Stouffville forwards managed to break free from the Knights' defense and score the only goal of the game.

Worth mentioning was the fabulous goal tending by Salome. He was sharp the entire game and kept the Knights in the game until the last minute.

The early season losses that have been handed to the Knights don't seem to reflect the hard work and determination these boys put into their practices and games, both on and off the ice. Head coach Brian Else, assistant coach Michael Bilzer and trainer Anthony Mifsud have put a lot of effort into making this new team stronger than their record indicates.
