full swing

Our girls and leaders will be around town selling our delicious chocolate mint fall cookies.

The chocolaty mint cookie concept is, for the most part, exclusive to Girl Guides of Canada in the Canadian marketplace. To date, there are only a few other products that have the chocolate mint combination. Girl Guides can proudly say that, in our opinion, none of those products can match the superior taste and appearance of our cookies. People buy this cookie because they love it and can't get it anywhere else. Try a couple with a cup of

coffee or tea or a cold glass of milk. They are also wonderful crumbled over ice cream or crushed to make a delicious base for squares or pies.

Nobleton District Girl Guides will be holding a "cookie blitz" at Nobleton Plaza. Thank-offering Service

"The dead leaves fall like noiseless rain; the air is calm and warm and sweet; upon the woodland and the plain; the ghost of summer rests her feet." (Clinton Scollard)

The Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society is to hold its last general meeting and flower show of the year Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. Please note the doors will be open at 6:45 and entries in the flower show must be in place, properly tagged, by 7:30 p.m. when judging starts.

The meeting is held in the Nobleton Community Hall, 19 Old King Rd., just north of the arena complex. The guest speaker is to be Kate

Seaver of Kate's Garden. She will demonstrate flower arranging and her topic is "the 15-minute bouquets. The last time she visited the society, the members were quite impressed with her show and have asked for her to come back. So, don't miss it.

The theme of the show is Autumn Harvest and there are six categories in the decorative class, one special class and more than 30 categories in the cultural class of many flowers and vegetables and, as usual, there are

chances you can find something in your garden for the show. There will be time for questions and answers and plenty of friendly chat over a cup of coffee or tea while viewing the flower show.

Also a reminder that the annual meeting and awards dinner is in the planning stage for Nov. 27. Circle that date on the calendar and plan to attend.

When bringing in potted plants from the garden, soak them in lukewarm water for 10 minutes, submerge the pot and let them drain off

outside before taking them in. It will drown the unwelcome insects and bugs in the soil.

The volunteer members are also reminded to report their volunteer hours to Maud Featherstone. The many hours spent planting, weeding, deadheading the watering as well as the hours used to operate the society, plant sales, board meetings and help with the flower shows and other administrations matters should be reported to go to the OHA at the end of the year.
