Important Community Meeting - Click here for details (PDF) Opportunities coming to meet and hear election candidates As municipal election day draws near, voters of King Township are going to have a number of chances to meet and hear from the candidates who are seeking to represent them. The two local Chambers of Commerce have all-candidates' meetings planned. And while it's not going to be an actual debate, Concerned Citizens of King Township (CCKT) will be holding a general meeting Oct. 29, and the candidates have been invited. CCKT member Debbie Schaefer said there will be no speeches, but people at the session will be able to ask questions from the floor, and candidates will be able to answer. "We think it's a great chance for people to get a chance to talk about what they want to talk about," she remarked. The meeting will be held at Kettleby-Pottageville Lions Community Hall in Pottageville, and will start at 2 p.m. Nobleton Schomberg District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting two all-candidates' meetings. The first will be this coming Monday (Oct. 16) at Nobleton Community Centre and Arena, starting at 7 p.m. In addition to the candidates for mayor and the local trustee seat on the York Region District School Board, council candidates in Wards 2, 3 and 5 are slated to be on hand. The other meeting will be next Thursday (Oct. 19) at Schomberg Community Hall on Main Street, also at 7 p.m. This session will be for mayor and trustee candidates, as well as those seeking the council seats in Wards 3 and 6. Councillor Bill Cober, who has been returned to his Ward 4 seat by acclamation, has also been invited. Jim Scott is slated to be the moderator at both meetings. The King Township Chamber of Commerce also has two all-candidates' meetings on tap. The first will be next Monday (Oct. 23) at 7 p,m, at Holland Marsh Christian Reformed Church on Dufferin Street in Ansnorveldt, and it will be for candidates in Wards 1 and 6, as well as those running for mayor and trustee. Cober has been invited too. The other meeting will be Oct. 26 at King City Community Centre and Arena, also at 7 p.m. In addition to the mayor and trustee candidates, those seeking the council seats in Wards 1, 2 and 5 will be taking part. King Township Sentinel Publisher and Director of Sales John Archibald is to be moderator at these two meetings. |
