Lots of exciting soccer action from Schomberg players

After 70 minutes of intense play-off action recently, the under-10 girls' State Farm Insurance - Lorna Downs Agent Schomberg soccer team was defeated in penalty shots by King City's Moyer Aggregates.

The teams were very evenly matched, and both gave a concerted effort. They were aided by awesome goaltending from Maddy "Cat" Douglas and Emily "The Wall" Colton. The front line was lead by Taylor Merrick, Alanna Panopoulos and Erin Tackaberry.

The midfield held their own with Rachel Pucar and Carleen Nugent. Notable mention goes to the rock solid defensive line of Lauren Sanders, Maddy Laycock, Celine Petrione and Hayley Thompson.

Schomberg played an amazing game and a great season.

Schomberg's under-10 Glen Hulse sponsored boys' team was matched with King Bible Church for playoff action Aug. 31 in Pottageville Park.

The game was also very evenly matched with a 2-2 outcome going into overtime. Mitchell Harknett and Blair Monaghan scored for Schomberg and Christian Favaro scored both goals for King City. During the exciting 10 minute overtime, both teams defence was so strong that neither managed to score. The game went into shoot outs where Glen Hulse's team finally prevailed with four goals for Schomberg and three for King City.

The goal scorers for Schomberg were Mitchell Harknett, Connor Richmond, Graeme Nugent and Steven Rode. For King City Bible Church, the scorers were Christian Favaro, Michael Cerrone and Robert Quattucci. Notable mention goes to Steven Rode who was outstanding in net.

If a scoreless tie, can be called exciting, then this was the game. The under-14 Schomberg Rona-Cashway girls played King City 2 Aug. 30.

Schomberg had all of the play during the game. Scoring chances for Morgan Baker and Janessa Makarenko went just over the cross bar. Christina Notte was robbed at by point blank range by the King City goalkeeper.

The second half was exactly the same, with chances by Olivia Chilese, going inches wide of the post, but the star of this game was the King City defense and their goalkeeper, who stole one for their team.

The Den Bosch and Finchley under-8 boys' team was matched in play-off action against King City's Forklift for You in King City.

The King City team started amazingly strong with four goals being scored in the first half of the game. The Den Bosch and Finchley team came back with excellent defence in the second half, but could not keep up to the offensive power of Forklift for You. The final score of this game was 6-1 for King City. Special mention goes to Connor Tackaberry for

scoring the only goal of the game for Schomberg. Also, special mention goes to Jacob Jung for his outstanding efforts and

offensive drive and ability. Jung's many strong shots on goal were stopped only by the exceptional talents of the King City goal-tender.
