Reader wants to keep his septic tank There is one thing that I cannot understand with the sewers being installed in King City, and that is the mandatory destruction of our septic tank. During the last 50 years, there has been no health problem, even though it has been filled with sewage. Pumping it out and rinsing it should not create a problem, and to pay money to destroy a perfectly good back-up system does not make very much sense. Homeowners own their septic tanks as much as they own their homes. They should have the right to decide what to do with them. To have a back-up system could be very important, when you consider our aging YorkDurham Sewage System and the massive problem with sludge, which will only increase, and possible errors in judgement made by the government. If the Township wants to destroy the tanks, they should pay us the replacement value. Then they can do whatever they want, at their expense. Mason Kirkpatrick, King City |
