Kingfest promises great entertainment for a great cause

It's hard to sum up in relatively few words the magic moments we anticipate will be the Kingfest music celebration this weekend.

It will be held in the Performing Arts Centre at Country Day School in King City Friday and Saturday evenings, and the entertainment will include the likes of 11-time Juno award winner, Murray McLauchlan along with Quartette, featuring Sylvia Tyson, Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford and

Gwen Swick; harmonica wizard Mike Stevens with bluegrass legend Raymond McLain; and popular local blues guitarist Joel Krivy.

Saturday night will feature R and B phenomena jacksoul; two-time Juno award winner singer and songwriter David Francey; bluegrass harmony group Kiximama; and local choir, Voices of Joy.

And it's mainly in support of the York Region chapter of Habitat for

Humanity, a worthy organization that specializes in helping families put a roof over their heads when they might otherwise have trouble doing that. It is one of those little things most of us would be inclined to take for granted, unless we had difficulty providing it for ourselves.

"Get out and enjoy the things that are happening in King," declared Councillor Steve Pellegrini, a member of the organizing committee.

He pointed out it will be the calibre of entertainment that one usually goes to Toronto to see, offered at a fantastic venue, namely the Performing Arts Centre at Country Day School. "What an evening to stay in town!"

"It's a fabulous musical event," Mayor Margaret Black added, "and we know it will be the beginning of many."

It will be a great event this weekend, and much is promised in future years, as

the location will be at the King Campus of Seneca College, with more topranked entertainment.

The shows will start at 8 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $38.50 for general admission each night, and $72 for VIP admission Friday night, which includes priority seating and access to the preconcert reception.
