MARKING 30 YEARS

Last Wednesday was a time for celebration for Schomberg IGA proprietor Gary Brooks and his wife Janine. It was the 30th anniversary of his becoming an IGA store owner, starting in Nobleton in 1976. He added a store in Schomberg in 1985 (where the Beer Store is currently located), then opened another outlet in Aurora. He sold the Nobleton operation in '95 and the store in Aurora the following year, and built the current 30,000 square foot facility in Schomberg in 1999. "It's been a ride," he commented, adding he's had great support along the way of family, staff and customers. "I've been blessed with wonderful staff. You can't be in this business and not have good staff."
