Couple of victories notched recently in Schomberg soccer play

The Rona Cashway under-14 girls in the Schomberg Soccer Club played a tough, but very exciting game Aug. 23 in the pouring rain in Ballantrae against WSSC.

Schomberg took a very early 2-0 lead with goals from Kelly Stephenson and

Olivia Chilese. They were playing very well and were comfortably in control. However, in the second half, the girls' focus dropped, and with the ball skidding off the wet surface, WSSC had two breakaways and scored each time.

It appeared as though Schomberg was going to record another tie, when suddenly the speedy forwards combination of Brown, Chilese and Alexander started to break down the WSSC defense.

With a minute left, Caitlin Ivany whipped in a corner kick, that dropped into the goal area, and Olivia Chilese buried it into the back of the net to make the final score 3- 2.

With the King City 1 club having won the league with an unbeaten season, Schomberg is now in a runners up race with WSSC 1, which will result in an exciting game.

The Den Bosch and Finchley under-8 boys' team scored another victory the following evening at

Kettleby Public School against the Primus team of King City.

Goal scorers for Den Bosch and Finchley were Jacob Jung with a pair, Ryan Schmied and Nick Bigelli, who connected three times. Notable mention goes to David Rea for excellent goal tending and great saves during the first half.

The final score was 6-1 for the Den Bosch and Finchley side.
