For some, the Canadian National Exhibition is an end of summer tradition. For the local museum, it's a chance to exhibit some of King Township's treasures.
For the past three years, the King Township Museum, along with nine other facilities from York and Durham Regions, has participated in a group display entitled Sowing the Seeds of Heritage at the Ex. The Township museum is
a member of the York Durham Association of Museums and Archives (YDAMA), with Curator Kathleen Fry serving as the 2006 chair. This association participates in a variety of activities, including professional development, networking with provincial government staff and group ventures like this exhibit.
This year's purpose for the exhibit was to illustrate elements of early village
life, with displays representing the homestead, school, church, general store and farm of an early settler. Highlighting the display was a PowerPoint presentation of old photographs and daily demonstrations of heritage crafts, toys, techniques and tools.
Situated in a building featuring farm animals, the artifacts spoke of a different time and help bring a little "country" to the city.
