40th Annual Kleinburg and Area Binder Twine Festival goes Saturday

The Mouse is returning to Kleinburg this Saturday (Sept. 9) for more fun filled excitement!

Join the residents of Kleinburg and area for their fun-filled annual community Binder Twine Festival.

The festival is celebrating 40 years, organized and run entirely by hundreds of volunteers. It will offer a day filled with good food, unique crafts, demonstrations and great entertainment for the entire family!

Hundreds of gifted artisans and crafters will be in attendance displaying their creative wares and talents. You're bound to be inspired while searching for that perfect gift.

Demonstrations include caning, wood carving, spinning and quilting.

After enjoying a delicious bacon-on-a-bun, corn-on-the-cob and a cold Sarsaparilla, challenge yourself to Olde Tyme activities. Events include log sawing, watermelon seed

spitting, stilt walking, nail driving, hammer test of strength, Olde Tyme basketball, hoops and the return of shave-the-farmer.

The entertainment line-up has something for everyone. Musical performances throughout the day include Helen Peacock on the Kleinburg United Church carillon, Dave Hoy's honky tonk piano, the Taylor Made Trio and Carl Roberts on the guitar.

Beginning 10 a.m. at the Main Stage, treat yourself to the historical Old Tyme Fashion Show.Visitors in period costumes themselves are welcome to participate in the Children's Parade at 10:40 a.m. At 11, drift back to the main stage to enjoy the Local Jazz Showcase.

Official ceremonies begin at noon with the Taylor Made Trio and various dignitaries.

The afternoon will be filled with popular entertainers including the sensational fiddling and stepdancing of Fiddlestep, The Links with Ken Losell, and Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductees The Good Brothers.

Children's World, sponsored by Tim Hortons, houses a fun-tastic area packed with excitement for the kids. Take part in giant slides, games, prizes, face painting, the Rona workshop, art activities (sponsored by McMichael Canadian Art Collection) and more.

All this and more is available at this year's Binder Twine Festival. Parking facilities are available for only $2, and the site is wheelchair accessible. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (60 and older) and youth, and $2 for children between the ages of two and 12. Everyone in pioneer period costume admitted free.

For health and safety reasons, patrons are asked leave all pets at home.
