Phil's Motors guys holding their own in under-12 soccer As the fields have been heating up from the summer sun, Schomberg's under-12 boys soccer team has been pumped up and ready to take on the season. June 27 saw Schomberg win 6-0 against Tottenham, with three goals by Nick Johnston and one each from Adam Baird, David Merrick and Matthew Zakrzewski. July 4 saw the local heroes drop a match to Wasaga 8-1 with Schomberg's Adam Baird scoring their only goal. Returning to the field July 11, Schomberg won 4-2 against the Cookstown Cobras. Teaming up for a goal each were the Baird brothers, Adam and Joshua. Also in for two goals was Brandon D'Amato. Scoring efforts for the Cookstown Cobras were made by Andrew Cumming and Cory James. July 24 saw the Innisfil Stampeders take a 5-1 decision. Scoring for Innisfil was Kiel Ferguson, Alexander Frey, Winston Marcotte, Anthony Borges and Daniel Fernandes. Scoring for Schomberg was Joshua Baird. The field was heating up as Schomberg took the Aug. 3 game against Alliston winning 4-2. Scoring efforts were made by Adam Bigelli with a pair of goals and one each by Christian Millani and Brandon D'Amato. Scoring for Alliston was Johnathan Parodzinski with two. The boys played their first playoff game Aug. 8 and lost to Alliston 4-2. Scoring for Alliston was Tyler Reed with two, and Johnathan Parodzinski and Carter Reed with one each. The scoring for Schomberg was managed by Brandon D'Amato with both goals. Honourable mention for excellent team playing goes to Kevan Cress, Stefano Dirracolo, Anthony Josifovski, Kyler Jung, Michael Notte, Jacob Pucar, Jamie, Ryan, Steven Sanders, Anthony Scinocco, and Louis Talijaard. Rona Cashway's under14 girls suffered a narrow loss to King City Aug. 9. King City took a well deserved two-goal lead into the second half. Schomberg fought valiantly and Chesney Alexander scored a goal, to make it 2-1. Schomberg kept pressing but could not break through. Then with seconds remaining, Schomberg sent all players in for a corner kick, and just narrowly missed scoring with the last shot of the game. In a very exciting match, notable mention goes to Caitlin Ivany in goal and Janessa Makarenko and Olivia Chilese who played an outstandingly strong game. The two under-8 boys' teams of Deville Electric, and Den Bosch and Finchley matched up at Kettleby Public School Thursday. Ryan Schmied scored the first goal of the game for Den Bosch and Finchley with a cracking penalty kick. The talented Carter Smith tied the game up for Deville Electric with a break-away goal in the first half. The Den Bosch & Finchley crew played a very strong second half. The combined efforts of Nick Bigelli and Evan Nugent on offence lead to a tenacious goal on a picked-up rebound from Evan Nugent. Jacob Jung continued the goal scoring with a stunning break-away goal to make it 3-1 for Den Bosch and Finchley. Notable mention goes to Connor Tackaberry for consistent strong effort both offensively and defensively, Thomas Rea for excellent defensive play and a personal best effort for Duncan McDougall. |
