Majority of residents still opposed to YDSS Dear editor: I read your editorial of August 9th with interest. It was a perfect example as to how one's biases and prejudices really shape the perception one has towards viewing an issue. You talk of the compatibility of the present King Township council, comparing it to the previous council that, in your opinion, was dominated by spite and acrimony. And while you admittedly do not actually come right out and say it I believe it is quite apparent that you are referring to those councilors who were opposed to both the YDSS connection to King City and the underhanded maneuvers practiced by Mayor Margaret Black with her regional cohorts. But the only real difference with this council is that Margaret Black has a majority of support on council, which she did not have previously. The actual issues have not changed. The YDSS, although nearly built, is still opposed by a majority of residents. The individual cost of connection to residents is still outrageous. And the bypassing of democracy by our mayor is still treated with disgust by many. However, politics being politics the spoils of victory dictates how history is written, or at least in the short term! Mike Shackleford Schomberg |
