Human remains found along King Road

A host of police vehicles were parked along King Road, near where human remains were found last Wednesday.
The investigation could take some time into the discovery of human remains in the area of King Road.

Forensic crews from York Regional Police were on the scene from late afternoon last Wednesday on the south side of King, between the 7th Concession and Mill Road. Police said a resident of a rural property in the area came upon what appeared to be human remains at about 4 p.m. The coroner subsequently confirmed they were human, and homicide investigators, along with officers from the District 4 Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Forensic Identification Bureau commenced a more thorough search of the area. They were assisted by by a forensic anthropologist from the Centre of Forensic Sciences, as well as the search and rescue unit and a canine cadaver team. Detective Sergeant Gerry Milne confirmed the remains were skeletal, but police had no information, as of Friday afternoon, as to the sex, age or race of the person.

"We're still conducting the investigation," he commented Friday. "We don't know too much at this time."

There is also no indication of how long it will take to get information. Constable Laurie Perks of corporate communications said it depends on how long it takes for the Centre of Forensic Sciences to process the evidence, adding it could take weeks.

"It's a real mystery at this time for us," Milne commented.
