Now's as good a time as any to donate blood
Many police, fire and emergency medical staffers in York Region are taking part in the Canadian Blood Services Sirens for Life summer blood donor challenge. The aim is to collect 1,100 units of whole blood by Sept. 4 to meet the summer demand in the Central Ontario Region. This is always a challenging time of year for Canadian Blood Services because many regular donors are on vacation, while the demand stays at its usual levels. This year's campaign is getting support from a number of corners, including from Vaughan - King - Aurora MPP Greg Sorbara. York Regional Police Superintendent Tony Cusimano was on hand at a clinic in Vaughan last Thursday to show support for the clinic, as were Jennifer Johnson of Canadian Blood Services; Helen Poulis and Vanessa Covello of Sorbara's office; Hailu Mulatu, clinic recruitment coordinator; Marlene Davidson of Canadian Blood Services; and Josephine Castillo, clinic supervisor.
There were 53 donors out July 24 for a clinic at King City United Church, and 50 units were collected. Frank Cianni or King City was one of the donors, and he was being assisted here by Monica Edoo of Canadian Blood Services.
