Ted Munroe remembered Submitted by Hans Nielsen

The community of King City lost a dedicated volunteer recently when Edmond James (Ted) Munroe suddenly passed away.

Ted and his wife Marilyn were long-time King City residents, having raised their family here. Ted was involved in many projects in the community, preferring to work in the background. Many events were possible because of his expertise, be it with electronics or carpentry.

For years, Ted was the sound and light director of the Kinsmen's show at King City United Church. He built the props, both there and for plays put on at Laskay Hall. He also volunteered at the King Township Museum, building miniature railroad stations for fund-raising efforts.

He made the King City Seniors' Centre his second home.

It would be almost impossible to name all the projects he took on there. He wired the centre for sound, built the cabinet and installed the big TV screen, as well as making improvements to the kitchen, games room and hall in general. He started the computer club and, thanks to Ted, many seniors in King learned how to work a computer. He set up and decorated the hall for many events, be it the art club, bridge club or any other special endeavours put on by the hall.

Ted served one term on the management board of the centre, but preferred to do his work behind the scenes. He headed up the needs assessment committee for the centre's expansion plans for the future. This project is currently on hold until 2008, pending the Township's budget, but it was one of Ted's big dreams to get on with the job. If and when it is completed, it will be Ted's legacy. When it's feasible, the centre owes it to Ted to complete it.

Ted was a friend to many, and will be missed immensely. St. Andrew's Presbyterian

Church

The weather fully cooperated for our July Church-in-the-Park worship services.

During August we will be indoors. We welcome Shawn Van DeVisch for the first two Sundays of the month and Andrew Fulford for Aug. 20, while Rev. Carter is on holidays. Both are students at Tyndale Bible College. Contact Jim Agnew, clerk of Session for pastoral emergencies at (905) 833-6016.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. It is our welcome back barbecue. Hope to see you there.

Join us for our Sunday services in the Chapel at 8 and 10 a.m., until after the Labour Day weekend. Meet new friends over refreshments following the 10 a.m. service.

For more information, call the church office at (905) 833-5432.
