Let King look its best for Communities in Bloom In a sense, it's almost redundant to urge people to try and improve the appearance of King Township, since anyone who has spent any amount of time here knows it's already a pretty spectacular place. But this is that one time of year when everyone should put that little extra bit of effort into making the place look even more spiffy. This township is going to be under the scrutiny of two judges of the national Communities in Bloom competition next week, so let's look our best. Lynda Rogers, who chairs the local Communities in Bloom committee, is urging people to do their bit. She mentioned they could pull a few weeds out of their front lawns, spruce up their flower beds or look around for litter waiting to be picked up. And if you're looking for a more tangible way to pitch in, we're confident that either Rogers of the Township's Parks, Recreation and Culture department can suggest things you could do to help. King has repeatedly over the years shown a spirit that encourages people to get involved to improve their community. We saw it just last month with the Arts Festival King. We see it a couple of times a year, when members of the community get out with their garbage bags and pick up garbage for the sides of roads. There are many people in this community who care passionately about the appearance and ambiance of this municipality. True, there are times when we might be inclined to question to political actions of some of these people, but we certainly know better than to question their sincerity and commitment to their community. King Township is blessed with a beautiful setting and a population that for the most part has the good sense to know and appreciate what it has. And the more people who realize that, the better things are. So like Rogers suggested, pull your weeds, spruce up your gardens, pick up the litter, and if your schedule permits, do some more. And remember the most important thing - You're not doing this to impress a couple of Communities in Bloom judges. You're doing this for yourselves and for your township. If enough people embrace that notion, King will have won before the judges even arrive. |
