Youth of King working on Battle of the Bands There are plenty of young people in their late teens and early 20s in King, and many of them are pitching in with volunteer contributions in the community. The Youth Leadership Association of the King Township Chamber of Commerce is busy setting up an event geared to young people. It is Kingstock, a Battle of the Bands. This live music event is scheduled for Aug. 19 at Nobleton Park, and it will run from 7 p.m. until midnight. Over the years, the Chamber reports these youths have been there at Nobleton Junior Curling to coach the less experienced competitors and to help organize and run the annual Bonspiel. In the Spring, their help at the annual Nobleton Victoria Day celebrations was invaluable. They have been working side-by-side with residents to get the Township ready for the Communities in Bloom judges. Other volunteer activities extend to church events, sports organizations, Township events, and various celebrations and activities in all communities of King. And now, through the Youth Leadership Association, they have taken a key role to provide this local event for young people. The Chamber reports they have been holding regular weekly meetings, acquired the necessary permits from the Township, arranged to have eight York Regional Police officers on hand for security, obtained stage and sound equipment and contracted entertainment and sponsorship by businesses and individuals. Chamber President Maureen Richardson has been working with the association, and said it's been a privilege to be included in this process of working with some of the finest leaders of tomorrow organizing an event for their peers. "At this time, sincere appreciation is extended to those who have stepped up to help in the process of making this event a success," she stated. "We will continue to support the endeavours of the youth organizing and promoting this event. Success of 'the youth element' is measured by dedication, commitment, and support." |
