Walker had more trouble getting home
By Billl Rea

Mayor Margaret Black and Councillor Peter Grandilli were on hand to greet Cosimo Figliomeni when he arrived at Sunday's barbecue.
Cosimo Figliomeni was able to complete his fundraising walk to Niagara-onthe Lake with little trouble. It was getting home that generate the trouble.

Figliomeni celebrated his 52nd birthday with what is becoming a tradition; a walk to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Toronto and Central Ontario. He started his trek from Etobicoke Thursday night with three companions, and after stopping twice for a couple of hours, they reached their destination at about 11 a.m. Saturday. Problems developed on their trip home when their motor home broke down. That meant Figliomeni was a little late for Sunday's celebration barbecue at the Imperial Ballroom.

Despite the problems, he was pretty pleased with the way things went, although they had to contend with a couple of hours of rain Friday night. But that was offset by the welcome they received. The Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake was helpful in getting the effort mentioned in the local media.

Gerry Gentile was on the walk, along with Paul Mario and Rocco Loccisano.

"I think the company and the thoughts of people supporting was helpful," Gentile observed, adding the heat got to them a little along the way.

He was also impressed with the welcome they received in Niagara-on-theLake, adding the mayor said he would try to raise more money "for this great cause."

The exact amount of money raised in the walk has not yet been determined. Donations are still being accepted, and can be made by calling Frances at (905) 859-4451.
