Not quite half the voters made it to the polls in last month's election
      After all the campaigning and speeches and doorknocking over several weeks, the final figures for last month's municipal election, released by King Township, contained little in the way of surprises. The election night figures released were confirmed.

Four tonnes of municipal election signs diverted from landfill sites
      York Region's recycling program diverted more than four tonnes (4,080 kilograms) of election signs from garbage dumps during a recent public drop-off event. Candidates involved in the recent municipal election and their campaign team members were invited to drop off corrugated plastic election signs at the Region's Waste Management Centre in East Gwillimbury.

Party Outlet opens in Schomberg
      Ajmer Singh and his wife Susie have seen a need for a store in Schomberg that caters to people planning parties or celebrations. So they have opened one themselves, calling it Party Outlet. The store was officially opened Friday by Mayor Margaret Black and representatives of the Nobleton Schomberg District Chamber of Commerce.

Police chief updates council on status of enforcement in area
      Crime is down in York, and policing is up. That was one of the messages York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge and others had for King councillors when they appeared before them earlier this year. Although overall crime rates are down both in King and York as a whole, they are up in certain categories.
