Driver distractions

Distracted drivers can pose a hazard on the road, according to the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO).

Things that can distract drivers include adjusting the radio, talking on cell phones, drinking coffee, changing CDs, reading maps, Looking for street addresses, thinking about non-driving activities, reaching for items in the front or back seats and personal grooming.

As solutions, THSAO advises checking your route before you start, keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times, being familiar with the equipment in your vehicle, no using your cell phone while driving, never taking notes, not reaching for items while driving, pulling over to eat or drink, doing your personal grooming before driving and never driving when impaired by alcohol, drugs, fatigue or stress.
