Alilovic seeking election in Ward 3

By Bill Rea

Nobleton resident Emil Alilovic said he's concerned about the direction King Township council has been taking, with rising debt levels and decreased service.

That's why he's running to be the councillor for Ward 3 in next month's municipal elections.

Alilovic, 40, acknowledged he does not live in the ward where he's seeking election. "I'm adjacent to it," he said.

He also said there are a number of bad roads in Ward 3 in need of attention, and pressures are getting worse as more motorists use the local roads to avoid congestion.

He also commented on proposals to extend Highway 427, pointing out the issue has been quiet lately, but he doesn't expect it to go away.

As well, he expressed concern with what he sees as a growing dependency on developers' money to get things done, and what's to be done if that money doesn't materialize.

"There's still a lot of uncertainty in the air," he said, pointing out a number of facilities in King, like arenas and libraries, are getting old. "We do have a lot of opportunities that are not particularly development oriented."

Alilovic is a customer service agent for Air Canada. A resident of King for about 11 years, he said this is his first attempt at running for public office, although he has had some experience in union politics.

"Going against an incumbent, the odds aren't as good as I would like," he remarked, adding there was a fairly good voter turn out in the ward in the last election. "I'm hoping that maybe the voters in Ward 3 are looking for change and I'm hoping that I can answer that."
