People in King certainly know how to put on fun events
The last couple of weeks have proven a couple of things.
One of them is there are many people in King Township who are very good at putting on fun community events. Another thing is there are many more people living here who have the good sense to get out and enjoy them.
It was demonstrated last Monday, as the community gathered in Nobleton for the annual Victoria Day celebrations.
True, the weather may have been a little on the cold side, considering the time of year. But that didn't keep people from having a good time, whether they were taking in the sights and sounds of the parade organized
by the local Lions, sharing some of the Queen's birthday cake, taking in the stage entertainment or coming back after dark to watch the local firefighters set off their annual fireworks show.
And it was more of the same over the weekend in Schomberg, as the local agricultural society put on their annual fair.
True, the weather may have been a little on the hot side, considering the time of year (some people are a little hard to please), but one couldn't have asked for better conditions under which to hold such an event. The skies threatened a little bit at the opening ceremonies Friday night, but after that, those responsible for the weather were most cooperative.
Although nice weather always helps, we would argue that's not the reason for the success of these events. In recent memory, there have been Victoria Day festivities and Schomberg Fairs that have seen more than their fair share of rain and crummy weather, yet people have still come out.
The explanation, we believe, is what we said off the top. The people who put on the Nobleton Victoria Day observances and the Schomberg Fair know what they are doing, and the results are consistently a fun time for all.
The results have spoken for themselves over the last two weekends. The most obvious thing about these two events is they both attracted a lot of people who came out and had a good time.
Is there a higher accolade for any other group of community volunteers?
